2. Placement and/or exemption tests (depending on the program)

Placement tests make it possible to place students at the appropriate level.

Depending on the result obtained, upgrade courses may be necessary. Those courses must be taken and passed in the first year of your studies. Applicants who do not sit the tests required by the program to which they are admitted will be automatically directed to the corresponding upgrade courses.

Furthermore, exemption tests are also offered for the courses Counterpoint 1 and 2, Harmony 1 and 2 and Musical analysis 1 and 2.

4. Selection criteria

The performance at the audition and/or the interview and the quality of the academic record constitute the selection criteria for candidates.

5. Replies to applicants

After your audition and your tests, the admissions panel meets and issues a decision with regard to your admission and the conditions that apply. An email will be sent to you from Université de Montréal’s Service de l’admission et du recrutement (Department of Admissions and Recruitment, SAR), validating the conditions relative to the degree requested and to the French test (about two weeks after your audition).

6. Acceptance/refusal of the offer of admission

You must respond to the offer of admission from the Université de Montréal Faculty of Music within the specified deadlines, after which point your file will automatically be closed. Following an acceptance, you will receive the documents/links/information relative to tests, to course offerings and to activities offered by the Faculty of Music.

7. Mandatory orientation sessions

After your admission you will also receive information regarding the different orientation sessions, some of which are mandatory. (This applies to the fall semester only.)

For all other questions, refer to the Current Students section: there you will find back-to-school activities, dates for the different placement tests, the academic calendar, and additional useful information.
