École LUMI
Founded in 1993 by the Université de Montréal Faculty of Music, the École des jeunes (Young Peoples’ School) became École LUMI in the fall of 2022.
Identifying all musical talents as a means of revealing the musician in each student, École LUMI brings families and generations together around the pleasure of playing music, offering diversified training, quality teaching and adapted guidance. In close touch with the community, it aims to provide as many people as possible with access to music training.
Whether with young people or with enthusiastic adults, beginners or the more advanced, École LUMI encourages music practice at all levels, highlights the place of music in society, and develops the audience of tomorrow. Opportunities for further training are also offered to advanced students, notably with the Faculty of Music teaching staff.
École LUMI instructors consist for the most part of Faculty of Music students, as well as Faculty graduates, who bring valuable teaching experience, along with the appropriate learning support. The École stands out for its innovative teaching methods and for its commitment to music lovers, which foster accessibility to musical knowledge, perseverance, fulfillment and success.
Over the years, attendance at the École has grown continually, exceeding 800 students in 2021-2022 whether for regular activities during the year, for summer camps, for educational programs in the social component, or else for affiliated schools.
