Renaud Loranger
Artistic director, Festival de Lanaudière and bachelor’s degree in musicology (2007)
- Where are you from?
I’m a Montrealer, but I grew up in Joliette and I’ve lived in Berlin for ten years. I worked at the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal for a few years before moving to Germany.
- Which teacher inspired you the most during your years at Université de Montréal?
I have wonderful memories from my time at the Faculty, especially the esthetics course given by Dujka Smoje. I had tremendous luck: my first university semester coincided with her last semester teaching undergraduate courses in musicology. It was an exceptionally rich encounter, and we’re still friends.
- Where do you work?
I’m artistic director of Festival de Lanaudière and I carry out comparable functions with the Pentatone label, in Amsterdam.
- Who’s your favorite artist?
I have the good fortune of working with many extraordinary artists, both in Québec and in Europe. Asking me to pick just one is really cruel!
