Scholarships available
PhD programs
- 1 Perras, Cholette & Cholette Scholarship of $12,000 (for students in composition and sound creation – doctoral level)
- 7 scholarships of $5,000
Master’s programs
- 7 scholarships of $4,000
Eligibility criteria
- Be registered full-time or "deemed full-time" (as per the Quebec Student Financial Assistance Act) in one of the graduate programs of the Faculty of Music at the Université de Montréal in Fall 2024.
- You must have completed at least one term at the Université de Montréal (with supporting transcripts).
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 4.0 at the graduate level.
Application

- Bachelor’s,
- Master’s,
- Doctorate (if applicable).
A curriculum vitae containing:
- List of scholarships, awards, and grants applied for,
- List of scholarships, awards, and grants received,
- List of publications and presentations (academic and professional),
- Names and contact information of two references (no recommendation letters required).
A statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) in which you:
- Highlight your relevant achievements in your field of study,
- Explain why you deserve this excellence scholarship,
- Describe your experiences directly related to your field of study,
- Mention significant accomplishments in other areas (sports, community involvement, etc.),
- Explain how these make you a stronger candidate for the scholarship.
Only complete applications will be considered.

Grants offered
Objectives
These grants are intended for Faculty of Music students who demonstrate financial need while making efforts to contribute to the funding of their studies that meet the eligibility criteria below.
Eligibility criteria
- Be enrolled fulltime or be deemed full-time student (according to the Québec Act Respecting Financial Assistance for Education Expenses) in one of the Université de Montréal Faculty of Music programs (excludes free studies and incoming exchange students).
- You must have completed at least 1 semester at Université de Montréal (supporting transcript).
Application
To fill out the form, you must log on using your institutional email address. The documents needing to be uploaded in the application form:
- Download and fill out the budget worksheet. Answer according to your annual estimates.
- The most recent unofficial transcript.
- Certification of your "deemed full-time" status, if applicable. The term “deemed registered full-time” refers to the Quebec Student Financial Aid regulations which recognize certain students registered part-time as being registered full-time due to their personal or family situation.
- Certification of UdeM disability support accommodation measures, if applicable.
Please note:
- It’s possible to apply for a financial-support grant and for the Musique Excellence competition, if you are eligible.
- In cases of withdrawal from a program or a where a file is not in order, no grant will be awarded. Recipients of an SSHRC or FRQSC grant are not eligible for the Faculty of Music’s Musique Excellence and financial-support competitions.
