Message from the Dean

Dear students,

We can’t wait to welcome you at the Faculty of Music! Every year spent here presents new challenges to be met, and multiple opportunities for all of us to develop a better understanding of ourselves, to enhance our skills, and to dream of new horizons. Those enjoying their first year at the Faculty will quickly discover that we’ve created, in this one-of-a-kind place at the top of the mountain, a vibrant, creative and supportive living environment. We form a family that flourishes in an ecosystem where a diversity of musical disciplines and more than twenty countries meet up and collaborate. We maintain close ties with the professional community, and are more open to the world than ever before.

In our desire to remain at the forefront, we continuously rethink our way of doing things on the basis of a deep conviction long shared by the Faculty’s teaching and administrative team: our duty is to enable you to achieve your career goals and to build – or else discover – your personality as a musician from among a broad range of possibilities. We must supply you with the means of creating your future in music and allow you to pave a trail in a society that can count on you to aim for both excellence and humanism.

Thus, we’re deploying all the means necessary for you to be able to study and excel in the finest possible conditions, and we hope to provide you with highest-quality personalized guidance in the spirit of innovation that has shaped our history from the beginning. Our goal is for you to feel at home and for the training you receive to excite you, motivate you and stimulate you. You’ll be able to count on the incomparable knowhow of our faculty members and on the exceptional dedication of our academic and administrative teams.

The Université de Montréal Faculty of Music is the largest francophone educational establishment for music in North America, and you can take pride in being part of our community!

I warmly invite you to meet us when the school year begins, along with the management team and key resource people from the academic team. We’ll answer your questions and provide you with more detailed information about the progression of the 2023-2024 academic year.

I welcome you home, to the Faculty of Music. And I look forward to assisting you in your studies and to greeting you at this event, which marks the first annual gathering of our faculty community. There will be many more throughout the year!
