The AÉMUM is responsible for student life at the Faculty of Music. Its principal mandates are:

·       Representing students on the various Faculty of Music internal and external committees

• Defending the rights and interests of its members in the Faculty, as well as with FAÉCUM

·       Organizing a peer tutoring service

·       Arranging social activities, like after-class gatherings and parties

> CÉCO - Composition Circle

Discover the Université de Montréal Composition Circle, a student group whose mission is to get audiences for and promote the music composed by Université de Montréal Faculty of Music students!

> Musicology Circle

The goal of the Musicology Circle is to create a network of students in the musicology and ethnomusicology programs. Activities are varied, ranging from social get-togethers to study days, and include an email group and a lecture series.

> Intersectional Feminist Committee

Created in 2018, its mission is to offer a safe, respectful and inclusive place that allows for both the discussion and the denunciation of harassment and sexism within the Faculty of Music.

• The Sofia research tool makes it possible to identify all the documentation held in our collections as well as in those at other universities in Québec or the world. You’ll be able to explore research guides, access databases specializing in music (journal articles, dictionaries, encyclopedias, audio or video recordings, digital scores), chat to get help or clarifications.
• You’ll also be able to borrow the scores, books, journals, recordings and so on that you need; to get information from team members for finding the titles or documentation by subject that you hope to obtain; and to attend practical workshops that will better acquaint you with the tools (catalogues, databases, software) at your disposal.
• In our spaces you’ll be able to use a computer station, digitize texts, images and music, and print. You’ll also get to work in a quiet area or reserve a table for working with a team in the room intended for that purpose.
• For multidisciplinary approaches, don’t hesitate to explore the different tabs on the UdeM libraries website: you’ll find a wealth of useful information for your academic career.

> Multimedia Service (SMM) webpage

The Faculty of Music’s Multimedia Service provides the audio, video and IT technical support needed for teaching and research, and is responsible for the audiovisual equipment in classrooms and workshops as well as for the free-service recording modules located in the three concert halls.

We also offer technical services: two multiphonic composition studios, a multitrack studio, a mixed music laboratory, a psychoacoustics laboratory, an electronics laboratory, a laboratory for electroacoustic ensemble, a computer laboratory and an audiovisual material loan counter.

The Faculty of Music possesses an inventory of instruments made up of various string, brass and woodwind models (modern and baroque). A student card will be required for borrowing by the day; for longer-term borrowing, you will need to take out insurance.

> Individual rehearsal studio (BOOKINGS)

• On the Bookings platform, you have to use your institutional address and enter your full name.
• It is impossible to reserve beyond 24 hours.
• Each reservation is for a 30-minute period. To reserve a longer period, you will have to make a number of successive reservations (maximum of 3 hours per room every 24 hours).
• It is not possible to make a recurring reservation.
• In case of cancellation, please delete your reservation as soon as possible to free up the timeslot.
• In case of a connection problem, fill out the formulaire d’aide des TI de l’UdeM (UdeM IT assistance form).

> Chamber-music rehearsal studio

With the approval of a teacher, it is possible to make a recurring reservation with the reservations resource person.

> Recording studio (1st floor)

The recording studios are for the exclusive use of students in composition and sound creation. Consult the multimedia sector webpage to check on availability and to reserve a studio.

> Concert hall for a recording

It is possible to reserve a concert hall to make a personal recording with the reservations resource person during the autumn and winter semesters only. The halls are equipped with a free-service audiovisual recording module.

• Recording periods are two hours long and are determined based on hall availability

Salle Claude-Champagne

• $65, payable at least seven working days before the recording session
• Recording periods are two hours long, and the reservation must be made before the 15th of the month preceding the recording session

Recording with a technical assistant from the Faculty of Music multimedia service

The audiovisual recording is carried out by a student-technician who has received training from the Université de Montréal Faculty of Music multimedia service. Recording is done with a HD camcorder positioned at the rear of the hall (static shot) and with a pair of stereo microphones positioned close to the stage (hall sound pick-up). Following the recording, editing will take place in 15 working days or less. When the editing is finished, an email containing a link to download the sound and audiovisual files will be sent.

A wide range of services is available to help you as you progress through school: Welcome and Integration, Socioeconomic Resources, success support, Health and Psychological Consultation Center, residences and so on.

>SAC - Cultural Activities Service

Not-for-credit workshops are offered to all Université de Montréal students in the fields of visual arts, film, communications, creation, dance, languages, media, music, photography and theater. There are also a number of employment opportunities: several positions are allocated each year for teaching singing, various instruments, computer-assisted music, and so on.

> Assurances ASÉQ – Student insurance

As a student at the University and a member of the FAÉCUM, you will be automatically registered in a student insurance plan (eyesight, dental, travel, etc.), with no obligation to continue that coverage.

> Health and Psychological Consultation Clinic (CSCP) – On-campus clinic

If you need to consult a doctor or another health professional, on campus there is the Health and Psychological Consultation Clinic (CSCP), open to the university community.

You can also consult the website Tout le monde à des bas, a campaign to promote the psychological wellbeing of the Université de Montréal community.
