Percussion

Since 1978 the Université de Montréal Faculty of Music has been providing percussionists with solid general training in music and preparing them to embark on their professional lives with all the skills needed to act and interact creatively in their environment.

Training geared towards the professional milieu

Receiving personalized instruction and supervision, students in the percussion performance programs have the opportunity to explore all styles and repertoires with a view to becoming well-rounded and versatile performers.

A number of the Faculty’s ensembles will help them get ready for the many facets of a musician’s career:

The professional ensemble in residence at the Faculty of Music, the percussion group Sixtrum explores the percussion sound universe by developing the repertoire. Sixtrum’s focus is research-creation on the one hand, and increased awareness and education on the other. The ensemble also hosts Faculty of Music performance students as interns.

Sought-after graduates

Faculty of Music percussion graduates perform with such renowned organizations and ensembles as the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre Métropolitain, the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal (ECM+), the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec and the Sixtrum percussion ensemble. Some also hold teaching positions at the high-school and cégep levels or in the university community.
