Period instruments
Whether at the undergraduate or graduate level, the period-instrument performance programs offered at the Université de Montréal Faculty of Music are aimed at turning out performers who are well-rounded and equipped for the realities of the professional world.
The curriculum comprises:
- Study of the solo repertoire
- Practice of ensemble music – notably in the Atelier de musique baroque de l’Université de Montréal, led by Luc Beauséjour
- The musical and intellectual training necessary to the modern performer
This discipline is intended for all period instruments except harpsichord and organ, as well as baroque singing (which is part of the programs in classical singing).
The opportunity of studying a 2nd instrument
Our bachelor’s in performance program is distinguished not only by close and highly personalized supervision, but also by the study of a 2nd instrument (normally a polyphonic instrument when the principal instrument is monophonic).
